Obesity and Women’s Health: What You Need to Know

Obesity is a significant health concern that affects millions of women in the United States, impacting  both their physical and emotional well-being. Here, you’ll find expert insights, helpful resources, and strategies tailored to women’s needs to better understand this disease and manage your health.

Obesity is a serious, chronic disease affecting nearly half of U.S. adults. For women over 50, the health risks—such as Alzheimer’s, arthritis, and fractures—are especially concerning and can severely impact quality of life and increase healthcare costs. Despite this, stigma and systemic bias often prevent women from receiving proper diagnosis and care, particularly those in communities of color.

To assess and address gaps in care for women as they age with or at risk for obesity, the Partnership for Women’s Wellness is launching its second working group–the Obesity Working Group, bringing together experts in endocrinology, primary care, nutrition, OB-GYN, behavioral health, and patient advocacy.
