Healthy Aging

Healthy aging is an essential priority for women, yet many conditions that emerge later in life often go unnoticed until they have already progressed. Osteoporosis, for example, is frequently called a “silent disease” because many women are unaware they have it until a fracture occurs. It is just one of several health concerns that become more common as women age, influenced in part by the hormonal changes that occur during and after menopause. Globally, an estimated 200 million women are affected by osteoporosis, and as the population grows older, this number continues to rise. In fact, one in three women over age 50 is expected to experience a fracture related to this condition.

This healthy aging focus area brings together a wide range of patient advocacy organizations committed to addressing unmet needs that impact women across all stages of adulthood. As part of this effort, PWW members will collaborate to elevate public awareness, promote proactive approaches to long-term wellness, and develop patient-centered initiatives that empower women with the knowledge, tools, and support needed to navigate their health as they age.

Whether managing bone health, cardiovascular changes, cognitive well‑being, or other age-related concerns, these initiatives aim to help women maintain strength, vitality, and independence throughout their lives.
