Mental health encompasses emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It shapes how a person thinks, feels, acts, manages stress, relates to others and makes decisions. When mental health challenges arise, they can affect every part of a woman’s life, from daily functioning to long-term health.

Globally, more than 1 billion people are living with mental health disorders. Data from the World Health Organization shows that while prevalence of mental health disorders can vary by sex, women are disproportionately impacted overall. Anxiety and depression disorders among the most common conditions experienced by women, often influenced by hormonal changes, life transitions and other societal pressures.

Through this focus area, PWW will work alongside mental health experts and patient advocates to increase awareness of women’s mental health needs across life stages to help advance effective, equitable approaches to care and treatment worldwide.
